TGSE seeks central government support for nationally-important projectsDate:Mar 27, 2014
The Thames Gateway South Essex (TGSE) Partnership is urging ministers to recognise the national importance of planned development projects in the area.
As part of the Thames Gateway, a national growth priority project, TGSE is, in Lord Heseltine’s words, “crucial to UK competitiveness”.
The TGSE is seeking £196m from the Strategic Local Growth Fund (SLGF) over the coming months to support local authority investment of £400m. The bid was submitted today (31st March) as part of the South East Local Enterprise Partnership application.
The public sector commitment and investment could leverage in £6b of private sector funding across the TGSE area, which runs through six south Essex local authorities along the Thames to the eastern fringe of London.
The TGSE bid has the support of local business leaders, three of whom are on the partnership board.
The government is expected to announce the SLGF allocations during the summer.
