Environment

One of the area’s greatest assets is its natural environment, with panoramic estuary views and sweeping landscapes scattered with icons from medieval times and the industrial revolution – the area embraces change.

To enable a sustainable future the Partnership has formed a strong multi-agency Greengrid network to champion the green agenda and ensure that space and development connect as one. The Partnership has also prepared a Waterfront Strategy which highlights how we can embrace the centre of the Gateway – the River Thames.

Across South Essex, significant environmental enhancement projects, including new country parks and the restoration of Rayleigh Windmill, have been completed, and new potential landscape and other ecological assets have been identified by the Land Restoration Trust, RSPB, EEDA and other partners to make sure that regeneration of this area offers excellent quality of life, and environmental sustainability.
