Skills
Education and skills development is at the heart of the vision. The area has vocational centres of excellent logistics, electrical engineering, media technology, engineering and sport, and is developing new Academies to drive excellence in schools.
Already Southend has invested over £50m in a landmark campus for the University of Essex and South East Essex College in the heart of the town centre. This Campus is now delivering results with a 40% increase in applications.
There are plans for a further £100m of investment in schools and colleges across the area, with Building Schools for the Future and an LSC and HEFCE capital programme providing the basis for new schools, colleges and university places is Basildon, Thurrock and Castle Point.
This Way Up
Thames Gateway South Essex Partnership are happy to launch This Way Up an EEDA Investing in Communities funded careers Guide. The guide we hope will be a key tool in helping South Essex residents in making their career choices. The guide is unique in that it has cases studies from students, employees and employers so gives a much fuller picture of choices out there for young people in South Essex.
Thurrock Construction Bus
To provide vocational “workshop” learning opportunities to support the development of the Thurrock Engagement Programme, the 14-19 Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment and skills for adults in the local community.
